Fuel price expected to rise about 40 agorot and again cross the 8 shekel threshold
Between Wednesday and Thursday night, with October's arrival, the price of a liter of 95 octane gasoline in self-service is expected to rise to about 8.15 shekels, compared to 7.75 shekels today. Unless there is a last-minute change, the price of a liter of 95 octane gasoline in self-service is expected to rise Thursday night by about 40 agorot to about 8.15 shekels, less than a month after the tax cut reduced it to 7.75 shekels.
According to forecasts, with October's arrival the price of a liter of 95 octane gasoline in self-service will rise about 40 agorot and stand at about 8.15 shekels, compared to 7.75 shekels today. The Energy Ministry says the exact rate of increase will be calculated only tomorrow after completion of data used to set next month's price.
The price increase comes as global oil prices rise, with crude currently standing at about 99 dollars. This is less than a month after Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich signed a temporary tax cut that prevented a sharp price increase of about 60 agorot and reduced the price to 7.75 shekels per liter.
According to the report, if the forecast holds, filling a 50-liter tank will cost about 20 shekels more, from 387.5 shekels today to about 407.5 shekels. The tax cut is set to remain in effect through October 31, and if not extended, the price could rise again in November depending on global oil prices and the dollar exchange rate.
