From the archives: On Dec. 20, 2018, it was reported that Dina Zilber upheld the legal position that prevented Yaron Zelekha's appointment to the cost-of-living committee. Zelekha opposed the disqualification and said he intended to petition the court.
According to Adrian Filut's Calcalist report published by ynet, Deputy Attorney General Dina Zilber found no justification to change the position of Finance Ministry legal adviser Assi Messing. The rationale was an overlap between Zelekha's consulting work, including for the Histadrut and workers' committees at food retailers, and the proposed committee's remit.
Zilber stressed then that the decision did not indicate a lack of ability or qualifications and did not impugn Zelekha personally. Zelekha proposed a conflict-of-interest arrangement, but the legal position was that the overlap was recurring and affected a significant part of the role. Then-Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon supported the appointment but said he would respect the legal opinion.
From the archives: this concerns an administrative decision reported in 2018. The report described Zelekha's intention to petition the High Court of Justice, not a High Court ruling or a criminal conviction.
