22-year-old Gaza student suspended from Dutch university after pointing at October 7 terrorists: "That's me"
A 22-year-old student from Gaza was suspended from Maastricht University after he posted a video in which he watches footage of the October 7 massacre, points at masked terrorists on screen and says "That's me." The university explained that the video and reactions to it raised concern and unrest among students and workers, and according to the report there is no formal confirmation that he participated in the attack. Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders called the suspension a "ridiculous punishment" and demanded he be deported from the country.

A 22-year-old student from Gaza was suspended from Maastricht University after he posted a video in which he watches footage of the October 7 massacre, points at masked terrorists on screen and says "That's me."
According to the report, in the video posted on Instagram and later deleted, the student, identified on social media as Hussein Issa, is shown sitting with three other people watching footage from the attack on Israel. When masked terrorists appear on screen, he points at the television, gives a thumbs up, smiles at the camera and says: "October 7. That's me."
Maastricht University decided to temporarily suspend him, explaining that the video and reactions to it raised concern and unrest among students and workers. In the university's statement it said "the student is temporarily suspended and will not be permitted to participate in studies," and during the suspension they will examine whether he can continue his studies and under what conditions. The university noted that it does not have the authority to investigate the background of the video itself.
Geert Wilders, leader of the far-right Dutch opposition, attacked the decision and wrote: "Suspended? Ridiculous punishment. Kick out this Hamas garbage from the country!" He also questioned whether it was possible to hold responsible Rutte Letterhead, the Dutch minister of education, science and culture, whom he said admitted him to Maastricht University.
According to the report, at this stage it has not been formally and legally established that the student actually participated in Hamas's October 7 attack, and there is no confirmation from police, the justice system or security services. According to documents reviewed by a local news site, the student arrived in the country only a few months ago, after the university submitted on April 8 a request for approval of temporary residence for him and Dutch immigration and naturalization authority IND approved it.
