New York City Mayor Zuhran Memduhi wrote a post on X today (Wednesday) marking three years since the Oct. 7 massacre. At the start of the post he wrote that "on that day, Hamas killed over 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 additional people," and added: "We mourn together with our many friends and neighbors."
From there Memduhi went on to attack Israel. "Suffering did not begin or end on that day," he wrote, accusing the Israeli government of "genocide" in Gaza. According to him, over 74,000 Palestinians were killed in the Strip, including more than 21,000 children.
Memduhi also wrote that "our tax dollars are financing these war crimes," and ended with a call to "refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue." According to him, the U.S. federal government is complicit through "every weapons shipment." Memduhi is known as a sharp critic of Israel and was the first New York City mayor since 1964 not to participate in the city's Israel Pride parade. On March 7, Jewish Insider revealed that his wife, Rama Dowaiji, liked posts expressing open support for the massacre. Memduhi said in response that his wife is "a private person who held no official role in my campaign or in City Hall."
