ההשבתה החלקית של חמישה מתוך ששת מתקני ההתפלה הגדולים בישראל בסוף אוגוסט חשפה שבר אסטרטגי במערך המספק כ-80% ממי השתייה במדינה, כך לפי הדיווח.

לפי הדיווח, בסוף אוגוסט הושבתו באופן חלקי חמישה מתוך ששת מתקני ההתפלה הגדולים בישראל: אשקלון, אשדוד, פלמחים, שורק א' ושורק ב'. פרופ' עידו בר-זאב מאוניברסיטת בן-גוריון הגדיר את האירוע כ"מגה-אירוע בלתי צפוי", וציין כי הוא חשף שבר אסטרטגי חמור במערך המתקנים המספק כ-80% ממי השתייה במדינה.
