Israel's U.N. mission held an event at U.N. headquarters in New York marking three years since the Oct. 7 massacre. The event was attended by hundreds of participants, ambassadors and senior diplomats from various countries, including the United States, Australia, Germany, Britain, Argentina and Tanzania.
At the center of the event was the story of Eliyah Cohen and Ziv Abood, who went together to the Nova festival and found shelter in a concrete shelter in Re'im that became a massacre site. Eliyah was abducted to Gaza and held in Hamas captivity for 505 days, while Ziv survived the massacre and worked throughout the captivity period for his release, and only when Eliyah returned from captivity did Ziv learn that Eliyah survived. Dr. Phil interviewed the two about their story, struggles and path to recovery.
Israeli U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon said: "Three years on, we stand in the heart of the U.N. to say something simple: Oct. 7 can never be erased, rewritten or forgotten." According to him, "Eliyah and Ziv are living testimony to the resilience of the people of Israel: even from the depths of hell we rise, recover and choose life."
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz said that "Oct. 7 will not happen again, certainly not on this president's watch," and added: "America will always stand with the Jewish people." The event also featured Sgt. Maj. Uriah Berlin sharing her personal story as a witness at Re'im base during Oct. 7, and singer Aidan Raichel performed several songs.
