The two people still detained in the suspected election-bribery inquiry are due in court in Beersheba today. Channel 14 reports that conditional release is being considered while phone examinations continue.
The report published on the morning of November 1 says police are inclined not to seek another extension of the two suspects' detention, but have not reached a final decision. The hearing is expected at midday; the report does not confirm that they have already been released.
Police sources cited in the report say investigators are still examining information from the phones of the seven suspects arrested during the case. Seven is the reported cumulative number of arrests, rather than the number still detained. Possible conditional release is not an announcement that the case has been closed.
The inquiry concerns suspected payments in exchange for votes. According to the report, an earlier detention ruling stressed that political activity is not itself an offense. The suspects' guilt has not been established, and the report does not determine that votes were bought or election results invalidated.
