On the billboard, against a black background, are the number '8200' and below it the text 'Where were you on 7.10'. It is unknown who placed the billboard.
Unit 8200 is IDF Intelligence's collection unit. In September 2024, the unit's then-commander, Col. Yossi Sariel, announced his resignation from the IDF and wrote to his troops: 'Full responsibility for Unit 8200's role in the intelligence and operational failure rests entirely with me.' In February 2025, with the presentation of an IDF Intelligence investigation into the massacre, the IDF emphasized Unit 8200's role in the failure, as reported by ynet: 'They did not monitor conversations and communications device operations, and Unit 8200's blindness to what was happening in the Gaza Strip intensified in the day preceding the Hamas attack, and continued even during October 7 itself.'
At the same time, on October 4, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir awarded a certificate of appreciation to Major Vav from Unit 8200, who had warned before the massacre that Hamas was prepared for a broad surprise attack. According to Channel 7, in one of her internal correspondence, under the heading 'Death in the kibbutz, at any cost,' Vav pointed to unusual training of two Nukhba companies, in which Hamas operatives practiced infiltrating a mock kibbutz and taking control of it. At the ceremony, Zamir said: 'Vav is a clear example of intellectual courage and professionalism.'
