Jonathan Karlinsky Matzek arrested at Ukraine border on way back from Uman for military enlistment
Jonathan Karlinsky Matzek, 49, from Jerusalem, was arrested on his way back from Uman after it was discovered at the border crossing that he is also a Ukrainian citizen. His family has now learned that he is being held at a military base near Odessa and undergoing military induction. His wife Udel: 'Everything must be done to bring him back.'

Jonathan Karlinsky Matzek, 49 from Jerusalem, was pulled off a bus at the Orlibivka-Isaccea border crossing on his way back from Uman after Rosh Hashanah, and according to reports he is being held at a military base near Odessa in the process of being conscripted into the Ukrainian army.
Jonathan Karlinsky Matzek, 49 from Jerusalem, was arrested on Wednesday at the Orlibivka-Isaccea border crossing between Ukraine and Romania, as he was returning from Uman after Rosh Hashanah. According to reports, he was traveling on a bus of the 'Path of Righteous' company with an Israeli passport, but border officials identified that he was also a Ukrainian citizen when they heard him speaking Ukrainian.
After checking his details, he was pulled from the bus and contact with him was lost since then. The family was later informed that he is being held at a military base near Odessa in the process of being conscripted into the Ukrainian army. Karlinsky Matzek was born in Ukraine, came to Israel about 14 years ago, returned in repentance and studies at a yeshiva.
His wife Udel said: 'Everything must be done to bring him home.' According to her, 'He has lived in Israel for more than 14 years, he is Jewish, an Israeli citizen,' and added: 'It's not simple for me at all, it's very difficult.' A friend from Jerusalem named Nathan estimated that 'he probably thought that since he has Israeli citizenship, he no longer has a problem in Ukraine.'
According to reports, the Foreign Ministry has not yet responded to the case.
