The first polling station opened in Wellington, New Zealand. About 4,800 eligible state representatives and family members can vote at 101 polling stations worldwide ahead of Israel's election on October 27.
Voting at the missions is intended for eligible mission employees, representatives of government ministries and attaché offices, and their family members. The polling stations were set up at 99 Israeli missions.
Across time zones, voting moves between the missions over about 30 hours. Polling stations in Los Angeles and San Francisco are expected to close on Friday, October 16, at 06:00 Israel time.
The Foreign Ministry and the Central Elections Committee operate the voting system. Once voting ends, the ballot envelopes will be sent to Israel under supervision and in accordance with procedures, ahead of their inclusion in the Knesset election count.
