A Hamburg court handed long prison sentences to two men convicted over planned attacks and surveillance of Jewish and pro-Israel targets, in activity the court said was directed by Iran.
According to the report on the verdict, a Danish citizen was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years and his Afghan accomplice to four-and-a-half years. Targets included Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, and Volker Beck, president of the German-Israeli Society.
Prosecutors said the Danish defendant received instructions from the Quds Force in early 2025, and information was also gathered on a Jewish-owned shop in Berlin. Both men were arrested in Denmark and extradited to Germany. Iran's embassy in Berlin rejected the allegations when charges were filed, calling them unfounded.
