IDF and Shin Bet reveal: slain Hamas commander oversaw detention of 15 hostages
Izz al-Din Bikr, the commander of Hamas's Northern Gaza Battalion who was eliminated this week, directly oversaw the detention of living and deceased hostages, including Mia Schem, Shani Louk, Ron Sherman, Nick Bizer and Amit Buskila. Bikr was one of the founders of the Nukhba force in the area and took part in the October 7 raid. Simultaneously, the IDF eliminated additional Nukhba militants, including one of the abductors of the Haran-Shem family from Be'eri.

The IDF and Shin Bet revealed today that Izz al-Din Bikr, commander of Hamas's Northern Gaza Battalion in the military wing of Hamas who was eliminated this week in an Israeli precision strike, directly oversaw the detention of numerous hostages, living and deceased, including Mia Schem, Shani Louk and Amit Buskila.
According to intelligence revealed at the conclusion of an extended investigation, Bikr was a key figure in Hamas's abduction and concealment apparatus. The list provided by the IDF and Shin Bet includes Mia Schem, Hashem Assayed, Shani Louk, Amit Buskila, Uriel Baruch, Nick Bizer, Ron Sherman, Elijah Toledano, Michelle Nissenbaum, Tamir Nimrodi, Yitzhak Glanter, Eitan Levy, Chanan Yablonka, Ron Benjamin and Orion Hernandez.
Before being appointed to command the battalion, Bikr served as commander of the western Jabaliya battalion and as commander of the military intelligence staff in the Northern Battalion, and was one of the founders of the Nukhba force in the area. According to reports, on the morning of October 7, he commanded terrorist cells and actively participated in the raid on Gaza envelope communities, and Hamas acknowledged his death and actions this week.
His elimination is part of a wave of targeted strikes that the IDF carried out against Nukhba militants throughout the strip in recent days. In Gaza City, Muhammad Jamal Mahmoud Abu al-Shaar, commander of a Hamas cell who raided Kibbutz Be'eri and participated in the abduction of members of the Haran-Abigdor-Shem family, was eliminated, and in Jabaliya, Matzaib Abd al-Jalil Saqib al-Labisy, a commander in Islamic Jihad who raided Israeli territory on the day of the massacre, was eliminated.
In Khan Yunis, Bilal Mahmoud Saliman Samiri, a militant in Islamic Jihad's rocket force who set ambushes for IDF forces in the 'Yellow Line' area, was eliminated, and in Gaza City, Ammar Mahmoud Ahmad Sharafi, a commander of a squad in Hamas, was eliminated. The IDF clarified that the IDF's reach will extend to everyone who took part in the massacre and abduction.
