A 19-year-old from Kafr Qasem, serving in national service as a firefighter at one of the fire stations in the central region, was arrested a month ago on suspicion of promoting terrorism activity and planning a series of attacks. According to a report by i24news released this evening.
According to the report, the suspect established contact with Hamas operatives and with 'an entity linked to Iranian intelligence.' At least one of the attacks he planned was aimed at a strategic site to which he had access through his work as a firefighter.
The report also indicates that the suspect attempted to establish a terrorist cell and recruit two additional acquaintances from Kafr Qasem. The two were arrested and held in custody for about two weeks, but insufficient evidence has accumulated against them to file indictments.
During a search of his home by security forces, 'airsoft weapons and extensive training equipment' were seized. After a month in custody, an indictment is expected to be filed against him tomorrow, according to the report. The case has been under investigation in recent weeks by police and the Shin Bet.
