Police to Shorten Officer Training Course to 5 Months Due to Staff Shortage
The course will be shortened from seven and a half months to five, and cadets will not be required to complete a bachelor's degree during it. As an alternative, police plan to require officers to complete a degree in order to advance in rank.

Police decided to shorten the officer training course from seven and a half months to five months due to a severe shortage of police officers and the need for officers in stations and units. According to the report, the first course in the shortened format will open in December.
Alongside shortening the course, the decision was made to lower the education threshold of the cadets. According to the report, they will no longer be required to complete a bachelor's degree after the course, as they were required to do until now.
As an alternative, police plan to require officers to complete a degree as a condition for advancement in rank.
According to the report, the decision was made a few weeks ago by Police Commissioner Danny Levi and heads of the personnel division in the police. The decision will be brought for approval by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
