For thousands of years, Tyre in southern Lebanon was one of the most important cities in the Phoenician world. From here ships sailed founding colonies throughout the Mediterranean, including famous Carthage. Today it is known as a UNESCO World Heritage site with impressive archaeological remains, one of the largest Roman hippodromes in the world and a sandy beach considered among the most beautiful in Lebanon.
